Transfer Specials. Click here to bet. Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez will both join Monaco Football Transfer Centre The latest football news Follow us on Twitter Free £10 bet on football In a statement the Liga champions confirmed agreeing "the biggest deal in the history of Portuguese football" to release the pair to Claudio Ranieri's Monaco side, who will compete in Ligue 1 next season after winning promotion from the second tier. Attacking midfielder Moutinho, 26, was a long-term target of Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who left the Estadio do Dragao for Chelsea in 2011. Twenty-one-year-old Colombian winger Rodriguez, meanwhile, had reportedly attracted the interest of Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before today's announcement. A statement published on fcporto.pt read: "FC Porto have reached an agreement with Monaco of the French league for the permanent transfer of Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. "To secure the players' registrations, Monaco pay 70 million euros (45 for James, 25 for Moutinho) in what happens to be the biggest deal in the history of Portuguese football. "FC Porto thanks Moutinho and Rodriguez for their dedication and professionalism. "(They) represented our colours for three successful seasons and in that period helped win three championships, one Portuguese Cup and the Europa League. "FC Porto wish both of them the best of luck." The 45m euros paid for Rodriguez makes him the subject of the most expensive deal of the summer to date ahead of Borussia Dortmund forward Mario Gotze, who will join Bayern Munich for 37m euros in July. Porto did not specify the length of either player's contract at the Stade Louis II but French newspaper L'Equipe reported the duo had undergone medicals in the Mediterranean principality yesterday afternoon. Monaco, whose majority shareholder is Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev, have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Falcao, the former Porto star who has scored 32 goals for the Spanish club so far this season.
May 24, 2013 3:27:00 PM The Serie A giants have parted company with their young coach after a disappointing ninth place finish in a season that fell well below expectations Inter have sacked coach Andrea Stramaccioni after just 14 months in charge. Sporting director Marco Branca broke the news to the 37-year-old via a telephone call yesterday, following the Nerazzurri's disappointing ninth-place finish in a campaign that included 16 league defeats. Stramaccioni, who was hired in March 2012 following the departure of Claudio Ranieri, was contracted at the Giuseppe Meazza until the summer of 2015 and both parties are currently locked in negotiations to determine the value of the severance package. The former Inter Primavera boss earned his reputation by guiding the youth side to victory in the 2012 NextGen series, defeating Ajax in the final and, following Ranieri's departure, was appointed first-team coach by Massimo Moratti last summer on a permanent basis. However, the club's lowly league position and lack of European football next term have contributed to his exit just 12 months into his three-year contract. Walter Mazzarri, who earlier in the week confirmed that he is leaving Napoli after guiding them to second in Serie A, is among the frontrunners to replace Stramaccioni.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charlton Athletic 4 Sunderland 4 Wembley Stadium: May 25, 1998 Spectators at Wembley for the 1998 play-off final were treated to a feast of goals before a nail-biting penalty shoot-out saw Alan Curbishley's Charlton Athletic progress to the Premier League. Charlton trailed three times before striker Clive Mendonca became the first player to score a hat-trick in a play-off final in extra-time and send the game to a penalty shoot-out. After leading the game throughout, though, Sunderland fell at the last when Michael Gray missed his side's seventh penalty with the Londoners triumphing 7-6. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bristol City 0 Hull City 1 Wembley Stadium: May 24, 2008 Dean Windass was the hometown hero when Hull City ended their 104-year wait for top-flight football with this defeat of Bristol City in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2008. The 39 year-old marked his first ever Wembley appearance in style with a magnificent right-foot volley from the edge of the area in the 39th minute. Bristol City searched for an equaliser and it would have arrived seven minutes from time had it not been for an heroic block by Michael Turner inside his own six-yard box to thwart Lee Trundle. Five nerve-shredding minutes of injury time tested the resolve of Hull City and their supporters before referee Alan Wiley blew the whistle at which point Windass dropped to his knees in celebartion and the supporters in the stands into raptures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blackpool 3 Cardiff City 2 Wembley Stadium: May 22, 2010 Blackpool became the smallest club to reach the Premier League after coming from behind to beat favourites Cardiff City and take their place in top flight football for the first time since 1971. Blackpool, who were a massive 32 points behind title winners Newcastle, won with goals from Charlie Adam, Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Brett Ormerod, all of them in a terrific opening 45 minutes. Cardiff fought back with goals from Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley, though Blackpool defended in numbers as they held out to secure a memorable win as the Lancashire club celebrated the greatest day in their history. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reading 2 Swansea City 4 Wembley Stadium: May 30, 2011 After leading Reading 3-0 thanks to two first-half goals in two minutes from Scott Sinclair and a 40th minute strike from Stephen Dobbie, Brendan Rodgers's Swansea City wobbled in the second half as Reading threatened one of the greatest comebacks in Wembley history. Swansea, though, dug deep before Sinclair completed his hat-trick with his second penalty of the game.
