Gourcuff: PSG are a danger to football
Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff criticised Paris Saint-Germain’s incessant spending will ruin the footballing world. By ESPNSTAR.com staff PSG have been big spenders since their Qatari owners took over in 2011, spending €108million in the transfer market last season while most recently acquiring Thiago SIlva from AC Milan for a reported €42million and Ezeiquiel Lavezzi from Napoli for €26million. Gourcuff feels that the France capital club’s uncontrolled spending will bring imbalance to the game and is dangerous financially. On the other hand, he praised the way German football is being run. “This a big problem in world football,” he told RMC Sport. “Clubs are now living through the provision of patrons. “This is a danger to football. Paris [Saint-Germain] do not inject funds directly into French football. We have to talk about financial balance. “The model [we must follow] is the German one, in both a sporting and economic sense.” PSG ended last season in second place despite their spending, three points behind Ligue 1 winners Montpellier.
