AC Milan are in talks with Manchester City over the signing of Aleksandar Kolarov , but the proposed transfer has been held up by the Premier League champions’ refusal to allow the defender to first move to San Siro on loan for a season, Goal.com understands. While Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani claimed on Sunday that Massimiliano Allegri’s squad is “complete” , the club are still looking to resolve their longstanding deficiencies on the left-hand side of their defence. Consequently, they have set their sights on former Lazio full-back Kolarov. In a situation which has evoked memories of the Carlos Tevez transfer saga, City are willing to sell, but they are insistent that the Serbia international leaves as part of a permanent transfer. Milan, though, want to take Kolarov on loan with the option to buy next summer. As a result, the negotiations have reached an impasse. The Rossoneri are also considering a move for Palermo’s Italy international Federico Balzaretti, who has been linked with both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, but the fact remains that cash-strapped Milan must sell before they can strengthen. That is precisely why Galliani is currently doing his utmost to offload Taye Taiwo. The left-back arrived on a free transfer from Marseille last summer but struggled to settle at San Siro and was loaned to QPR for the second half of the season. Allegri has also asked his president to bring in a midfielder before the start of the new Serie A season, but Galliani has thus far been frustrated in his attempts to sign primary target Lassana Diarra. Not only are Real Madrid unwilling to sell the France international, the player, who is currently collecting a hefty wage packet, is not interested in leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in spite of his lack of game time. As a result, Milan are desperately hoping that breakthroughs will soon be made in their respective bids to land Kolarov and Diarra before the summer is out.
