Sweden’s Euro 2012 squad
Sweden coach Erik Hamren has left out young striker John Guidetti from his 23-man squad for Euro 2012. The 20-year-old, who is owned by Manchester City, had been strongly tipped to make the squad after an impressive season on loan at Feyenoord, but failed to make the cut because of an injury. However, Johan Elmander, who suffered a suspected serious foot injury in Galatasaray’s goalless draw with Fenerbahce at the weekend, has been included in Hamren’s side. “Our doctor Leif Sward estimates that there is a big chance that Elmander will be back to full fitness for the matches at Euro 2012,” Hamren told reporters at a press conference. “There was no chance that Guidetti would be able to take part due to an injury.” Sweden have been drawn in Group D with Ukraine, France and England. Prior to the tournament, Hamren’s men will play two friendly matches, against Iceland and Serbia.
