Galatasaray’s Emmanuel Eboue escapes fan attack in Turkey
Emmanuel Eboue, who joined Turkish club Galatasaray from Arsenal in August 2011, was pelted with bottles last November by fans, and in a yet another troublesome incident he was assailed on Monday during his side’s return leg fixture against Besiktas, which ended 2-0 in favour of the Yellow-Reds. Besiktas’ supporters hurled plastic bottles at the Cote d’Ivoire international on the side-line as he was about to take a throw in. A fan later entered the pitch to confront Eboue but was stopped by security and team-mates. Local observers in Turkey suggest the rough treatment could be race-related but the Black Eagles’ fans claim the Ivorian’s play-acting on the pitch is what provoked the reaction. Another Cote d’Ivoire international Didier Zokora was a victim of a racial slur during his club Trabzonspor’s clash with Fenerbahce on Sunday, according to a statement the player sent to Ivorian state newspaper Frat Mat.
