Feyenoord Coach Ronald Koeman Confirms Dirk Kuyt Desire
Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman would love Dirk Kuyt to return to the club, but insists he has not been in contact with the Dutch striker. A transfer battle is on the verge of breaking out for the 31-year-old, whose six-year spell at English giants Liverpool is expected to come to an end this summer. Kuyt is in demand in Italy, where Fiorentina and Roma both want the Holland international to wear their respective shirts next season, while a rekindling of interest from Inter, who have tracked the Dutchman on and off for the last two years, cannot be ruled out. But it is a return to former club Feyenoord, where Kuyt is a firm fan favourite, which is gaining traction, despite the fact that the Liverpool man could easily earn more in Serie A and would have to take a cut in salary to return home. There had been speculation that Feyenoord boss Koeman sent Kuyt a text message encouraging him to sign up, and though this has been denied by the ex-Benfica coach, the fact that the striker would be welcome at De Kuip is obvious. “I’ve never sent a text message” , said Koeman to NUsport , with transfer negotiations remaining in the hands of technical director Martin van Geel. “As coach of Feyenoord, I naturally hope that he will wear the shirt of Feyenoord again, but I can’t say more than that. “I’m only focusing on the rest of the season. “But of course it’s common sense that Kuyt would always be welcome here. He would add value to this team.”
